The AVID College Readiness System

The dedicated staff and faculty at Wilson have implemented an exciting program to reinforce long-term academic and professional goals among our students. AVID, a global nonprofit organization dedicated to preparing students for success in a highly educated society, selects schools in 44 states and 16 countries to participate in their college readiness system. As an AVID National Demonstration School, Wilson strives to emphasize efficient communication, effective study habits, and critical thinking skills via measures in listening, speaking, and writing. AVID provides our community with the ability to further the collaboration of students and teachers. It is with AVID's support that we have created a culture of leadership on our campus. The belief that students will rise to the challenge of their school's high expectations, given the right social and academic support, is one to which AVID passionately subscribes. We here at Wilson couldn't agree more. For more information, please visit the Our School or Why Choose Us page.

ELL Program

Over half our community in the Wilson School District speaks English as a second language. For this reason, Wilson's team of highly-trained educators runs a successful English Language Learners (ELL) program. Our ELL department is devoted to transitioning students with primary languages other than English into mainstream classrooms using the Structured English Immersion (SEI) method. We require that all of our teachers be ESL certified by their third year in the district. Offering our students these additional resources, so that they can capitalize on their multilingual skills in future endeavors, is Wilson's supreme responsibility. For more information, please visit the Our School page.

Honors Classes

Wilson is proud to offer an honors program in which more advanced students can better challenge themselves through a more enhanced curriculum. Our aim is to encourage the momentum these students possess by presenting ideas and concepts in classes designed to meet their higher levels of learning.
